Dhan Limwattana - Eye-Popping Portraits and Electrical Street Photography

Dhan Limwattana is a young photographer based in Vienna, Austria who mainly works digitally. We asked him to test our Neptune Art Lens System including the Naiad 15 mm Front Lens for us. Two beautiful series - a portrait series in Vienna and a street photography series in Bangkok - prove the versatility of this lightweight lens system.

Dear Dhan, welcome to our online magazine! Please tell us a bit about yourself first.

My name is Dhan Limwattana and I am a street and people photographer from Vienna. I was born in Vienna, but my roots lie in Thailand. I am currently studying photography at Die Graphische Wien in order to further my education.

How and when did you get into photography?

For my 17th birthday I got my first camera, the Nikon D5300, and from that moment on my life changed completely. But my passion for photography didn't just come out of nowhere: my father was already a great analogue photographer. I guess I inherited the eye for it from him, because even before I had my camera, I had an inner desire to share my perspective with the world.

You received the Neptune Art Lens System and Naiad lens from us for testing, how did you get along shooting with these lenses?

I have become a big fan of the Neptune Art Lens System and Naiad 15 mm. The three lenses from the Neptune system were very lightweight and compact and I could take it practically anywhere. Of these, the 80 mm was my favourite lens because this focal length was perfect for street photography. I was also thoroughly impressed with the Naiad 15 mm, I took really great pictures with it and that ultra-wide angle view with the 135 degree field of view was really stunning.

Can you tell us a bit about where the photos were taken?

With pleasure, then first to the Naiad lens. I used this lens in a portrait shoot in Kaisermühlen, Vienna with my model Khira. The street sets were taken in Bangkok, more precisely in China Town Yaowarat.

What do you think of the results?

So my all-time favourite has become the portrait shots, because the lens is super sharp and allows perspectives that you couldn't get with normal standard focal lengths. Of course, you can see the barrel distortion in the picture, but it's not annoying at all, I used it on purpose as a design tool.

What's next for you?

At the moment, my first priority is college and I hope that I can successfully complete it, because after that I would like to become self-employed. On the side, I'm active as a freelancer and have some big clients waiting in the wings. A little fun fact on top of that: At the end of October, I'm also competing for my 3rd black belt in Taekwondo, so I'm very busy with preparations.

Thank you Dhan for the lovely interview and the wonderful photos! If you want to see more of him, you can follow Dhan on Instagram.
